And now, for my own giveaway… Living in Edinburgh has really renewed my love and passion for traveling to new places. As such, I thought I’d pass along that same spirit of adventure by giving away a travel clutch and luggage tag. I hope you enjoy it! To enter into the giveaway, simply post a comment sharing where you would like to travel to if you could go anywhere you liked and money was of no concern. Top spot on my current destination wish list? Morocco! Also, please be sure to leave some way for me to contact you so I can get ahold of you if you win! Then, on December 17th I’ll randomly select a winner and announce it here on the blog. Happy blog surfing everyone!

I know some of you are fans of this brilliant man. Me too.

As I’ve been thinking about this blog and wanting to get back to posting the lyrics of one of Mr. Diamond’s songs has been echoing around in my head. It sums my sentiments up perfectly. Life has been BUSY since my last post and I miss this little blog! More to come this week, but for now take a listen here.

Anyone else out there have a favorite Neil Diamond song?

Back soon!

My friend
Just called to let you know

I think about you ev’ry night
And I know it’s late
But I couldn’t wait

So, as most of you know I’ve recently had a good dose of free-time since we moved to Edinburgh. Mostly I’ve been filling my days with fun coffee dates with new friends, walks through the city, reading great books, sewing projects for our flat, and just generally enjoying my life of leisure far too much. But, there has been the occasional afternoon with nothing to do and in such situations I usually find myself surfing the web. Recently on one such afternoon I was catching up on some of my favorite blogs and I came across this great website.

I love having interesting desktops, but I hate how most pictures look with the desktop files on top of them. Way too messy for a Type-A’er like me. But, these desktops are so simple and clean in their design, not to mention quite trendy and modern as well. Plus there are LOTS to choose from! Below are some of my favorites… Makes you want to get one for yourself, right? Well, go on then! Have a look and I know you’ll find something to delight.

new find

I was just perusing some of my favorite blogs and I came across a clothing and home company that I’d never heard of before called Toast. It is so lovely that I just had to share it here with you all. Also, the company is based in the UK… I’m feeling more at home already! See how beautiful their stuff is? I feel inspired just looking at it! I sure do miss the days of back to school shopping… There was nothing better than getting a brand new outfit for the first day of school. That and new pencils. I loved getting new pencils.

So it is still hot here in Boise. Really. Really. Hot. And while I do love an afternoon in the sun, I think I like cool drinks on a shady patio even better. Today I was thinking about making up a couple of my standard summer refreshers, (gin and tonic with a twist of lime) for J and me when I decided to find a new drink to beat the heat. And, like all good 20 somethings (soon to be 30 -eek!) I turned to Google for help. I found a fun quiz to take that tells you your cocktail personality and it was so quick and cute I thought I’d share it with all of you.

My drink: The caipirinha. Turns out I was right on track with my favored lime, but now I can try a Brazilian version of my standby. It sounds great to me… I’ll let you know how it turns out!

cocktail.jpegHere’s the description for the quiz…

“Fruity, funny and with a touch of the Brazilian fiesta about you, the caipirinha is the tipple for you. You’re as fresh as the cut limes in the drink, but still as sweet as the sugar they put in it. Mix it together and you have a wonderful concotion of craziness. Why not mix it up and try a caipiroska (caipirinha with the vodka instead of cachaça), a caipifruta (made with condensed milk and assorted crushed fruits) or a batida (cachaça and fruit juice over ice)?”

Sounds good, huh? Want to make your own? Check out this Youtube video describing how to make caipirinha!

Now, go kill some time and find out what your cocktail personality is!

Just as an aside… both J and I are deep in the midst of a job search here in Boise. So far, no one seems to be hiring, but I’m going to get my social work license, LMSW, (which means taking a long, awful test) and then hopefully I’ll be more employable. Keep your fingers crossed!

quiz time!

I love a good quiz, and this one is great! Ever wonder what your decorating style is? Pop over to Sproost and take their great style quiz. I think they got my style just right… Rustic Revival with a dash of Vintage Modern and Cottage Chic thrown in for good measure. It only takes a few minutes and is a fun midday break. Enjoy!

Rustic Revival

You can take kid out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the kid… or is your theme “you can take the kid out of the city, but you can’t take the city out of the kid?”.

Either way you play it, you are one of the unique individuals who loves a mix of modern and country. The clean lines of the modern softened by rustic/vintage elements is the perfect mix in your mind. And can we blame you? You’ve taken the best aspects of two popular designs and mixed them in a manner that appeals to young and old alike. A subtle background of white or light colors provides a nice canvas for all the wonderful flea market, eBay, or garage sale finds as well as the classic modern pieces that you love.
